4 Days in Our New Home

4 days in Costa Rica have gone by rather quickly.  Our family has been experiencing and attempting to adjust to so many new things.
This morning (Saturday)it rained for maybe 15 mins.  then the sky cleared and the sun shone brightly.  From our 1 room upstairs we can see beautiful mountians all around us.

This afternoon a farmer I met when I was here in November, is going to pick us up and take us to his farm in the mountians.  We are looking forward to a trip out of the city.

We have a small park across the road from our house where we spend some time playing.  There is a bigger park 2 blocks away where some of the american families from the school spend time together.

We have connected with serveral American families in our neighborhood.  I even met a man that is a pastor and went to seminary in Myerstown.  Imagine that!

Leaving our house to walk to the store or walk to the park or to friends is quite an experience.  We have three locks - 1 door and 2 gates that have to be unlocked and then locked again after everyone is thru.  I must have used a key a thousand times in the 4 days that we are here.

We have been warned by other people that anything that is left in the front yard between the two gates, will be missing in a short amount of time.  The children and I are coming up with a plan to make a fake bike or something else - lay it in the front yard and hide and watch what happens. We will try to post pictures if we do that  =)

We were able to hook up a phone in our house that we can call the states and you can call us with a local number.  It has been nice to be able to connect with family back home.  If you would like to call us, both of our Mothers have our phone number.  Our email is the same as it was in PA.

Thank you to each one of you who has a part in this step in our call to serve Jesus.  Whether it is in prayer, or financially, or both, know that you are playing a part in futhering God's kingdom and doing a part in fulfilling the great commission.  Thank you for your support!

One thing you need to know about Costa Rica is that there are iron bars around everything.  Another thing is that the fruit here is the best!  ~Lauren

One of the reasons why I am glad to learn spanish is because when we went to the park, 2 little girls kept talking  to me in spanish and I kept saying "no hablo, espanol"  but they kept talking in spanish.  I will be happy when I can talk to them!  ~Kortnee

We don't know what this fruit is called but it is super sweet!

I love Costa Rica and today we are going the farm where the farmer told us sometimes he sees sloths in the trees.  We also have a lizard in our house that we call GEICO.  We did not see a monkey yet but hope to see one soon.  ~Cody

Our local bakery is a couple blocks, this morning we had
french toast made with this delicious bread.

Kortnee and Cody have put miles and miles on their scooters!

  1. That fruit that Kortnee is holding is called "rambutan", in my language. It makes me miss home. Thanks for sharing and God be with you every step of the way. -Blanche
